At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, we see the positive effects of the human and animal bond firsthand, and we want to support those in our community. Our community outreach programs are here to help those in our community who need assistance.
Referral to our community outreach programs is required from a recognized service agency or professional.
Emergency Boarding Program
This program offers temporary care and housing for pets of individuals and families in personal crisis. This program is intended as a last resort, and pet owners are asked to seek pet care with other family members, friends, or boarding kennels first. If care cannot be arranged, the CAHS Emergency Boarding Program may be able to look after your pet provided all the program criteria have been met and shelter space is available.
Pet Safe Program
The Pet Safe Program offers temporary care and housing for pets of individuals and families fleeing domestic violence or abuse. Many individuals will not leave an abusive situation for fear of harm to their cherished pets. The CAHS Pet Safe Program was created to give these individuals a temporary safe place to house their pets while they seek help.
Pet Food Bank
Individuals or families accessing the food bank through the Cochrane Activettes may receive a voucher for pet food that can be redeemed at the CAHS.
Rural Rescue & Support Program (RRSP)
The Cochrane & Area Humane Society has partnered with communities and other animal rescue organizations to assist underserved communities with their animal welfare needs. The CAHS was founded with the knowledge that rural communities often require unique support and animal welfare services to ensure the health of animals and people in the communities.
