Raise funds and raise hope

A third-party fundraiser is an event or initiative organized by an independent individual, company, or community group that benefits and is approved by the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.

By hosting a fundraiser, you can contribute to the well-being of the animals in our care and ensure they receive necessary medical attention, food, shelter, and love. Your efforts can help improve their quality of life and give them a second chance.

Fundraisers also allow us to continue offering essential services such as animal adoption, spaying and neutering, vaccination programs, and educational outreach. Through these fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences, you can create a lasting impression in our community and show how much our shelter animals mean to you.

Third-party fundraisers can be as big or as small as you like.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Ask for donations instead of gifts for your next birthday party or anniversary.
  • Donate funds to the CAHS on behalf of wedding guests instead of providing favours.
  • Host a sporting event, car wash, garage sale, lemonade sale, pancake breakfast, or BBQ by donation.
  • Ask your school for permission to host a bake sale, candy jar guess, sports tournament, or dance with all proceeds going to the CAHS.
  • Hold a company picnic at your workplace, have a 50/50 draw, or ask employees to pay to participate in a Casual Friday.
  • If you own a business, donate a portion of sales from a certain product line to the CAHS.

We appreciate your generosity and enthusiasm to organize a fundraiser to benefit the Cochrane & Area Humane Society. Your initiative will require your time, energy, and personal resources, so please review our fundraising guidelines below to understand your responsibilities and ensure that your idea meets our community fundraising criteria.

Fundraiser Guidelines

If you have any questions about planning your fundraiser, please contact us at communications@cochranehumane.ca or 403-932-2072 ext. 111.

You will need permission from the Cochrane & Area Humane Society to use our name and logo for your fundraiser. Once the fundraiser is approved, we will email you a package containing:

  • Our logo for use on promotional materials
  • Templates for a donation solicitation letter and thank-you letter
  • Prospective Contact Sheet to ensure individuals and businesses don’t receive multiple requests for donations
  • Donation tracking sheet so we can issue accurate tax receipts after the event

Using our logo on promotional materials does not imply that the CAHS sponsors the fundraiser. We are involved only as a beneficiary.

Please submit a completed Prospective Contact Sheet (provided by the CAHS) before contacting potential donors or businesses for donations. We want to be respectful of our relationship within the community and do not want to overwhelm individuals or businesses with multiple requests.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society issues official income tax receipts in accordance with the third-party fundraiser guidelines set out by the Canada Revenue Agency. The fundraiser must maintain complete donor records on the Donation Tracking Sheet for Tax Receipts in order for a tax receipt to be issued.

We do not provide individual tax receipts for event-based fundraisers (e.g., golf tournaments, dinners, ticket sales, etc.). We will, however, issue tax receipts for monetary donations of at least $20 made to the third-party fundraiser.

If you are coordinating a draw, raffle, or other event that involves selling a ballot or item to the general public, some permits and/or licenses may apply. You are responsible for obtaining the appropriate documentation and licenses to conduct the fundraising activity.
